Well, I can't believe my first post in a new blog, after returing from the US, is going to be about a dial-up connection service! 'SMS4NET' they call it (WOL & Mobilink). Pakistan has defiitely entered the DSL, WiMax and high-speed internet race just like the rest of the world but we forget that not everyone in our coutry is getting THOSE services on their computers all the time. Some of us (read: most of us!) are still using good old dial-up and it can't get better than that for us!! So it was while going through a dial-up connection that I got to know about the 'SMS4NET' service by WOL (I guess they got owned by LinkdotNet now??). I was in the middle of sendig over an application to a university (Georgia Tech, if ayone's interested) and the stupid connection died. My cousin suggested sending an sms to 965 over his Mobilink conection (I still don't have a cell phone yet!) and man, I got 25 INTERNET HOURS just sitting there in the middle of the night. I can't say much about other service out there in the market right now but this one sure is a LIFE SAVER! And a TIME SAVER!! WHO WANTS TO GO OUT IN THE RAIN AD THE KEECHAR TO BUY INTERNET HOURS ANYMORE??!? Lahore is full of rain and mud...I don't knw when the DSL people will come around...but as long as I have SMS4NET...at least I can stay in touch with the world without losing my head.
