Atif Aslam
Hi guys, i thought i'd give you all a history lesson on Atif Aslam
Atif Aslam was born in Pakistan in the town of Wazirabad, which is nr Gujranwala. Atif Aslam studied in the city of Rawalpindi and Lahore. His initial stages of education started with Atif attending school at PAF college Lahore. One of his interests there was cricket and there he also took interest in music. He went on to attend the Punjab Institute of Computer Sciences to do a BCs (Bachelors). It was there that he met the talented Guitarist and composer Gohar Mumtaz. They formed a strong friendship and started playing and jamming together which in turn resulted in Atif Aslam and Gohar performing at various small venues like the college and restuarants. With the performances eventually came their new name of Jal, although it is still not clear who was actually the originator of the name Jal. The band was formed in year 2002 with the lead singer Atif Aslam on vocals and guitarist Goher Mumtaz
This ever so talented 2 member band flourished rapidly and reached its peak (with both members being together). After the recording of their debut song Aadat, in February 2003(helped by Salman Albert, amongst other established and accomplished Pakistani musicians), the song proved to be a huge success especially on a lot of pakistani music websites. It also achieved great success on a host of main radio stations of Pakistan. The shooting of the Aadat video was in Karachi. Based on the success of Aadat, the band went on tour together. But unfortunatley, due to personal differences, the band didn't last that long. A break up was officially announced in February 2003. As of now, the band Jal comprises of three members namely: Guitarist Goher Mumtaz, Vocalist Farhan Saeed Butt and Amir Sheraz (a.k.a. Shazi) on bass.
Atif Aslam is now a solo artist and has no part to play in the band Jal. Since leaving the band he has released a solo album entitled Jal Pari which also proved a great success for him. Songs from the album such as Dil Haarey, Woh Lamhey and few others were massive hits on all media including the main Pakistani radio stations and the TV Music Channels. Since both of the Jal, Aadat, and Atif’s album Jalpari, shared some of the same tracks (including Bheegi Yaadein/Wo Lamhey, Ankhon se and Aadat) an unofficial disoute on the ownership began which ended up in both paries claiming to have proof of the fact that they alone owned the concerned songs. The hype surrounding the battle resulted in the fans splitting with the band with both of the fans sides having their favourites.
In all this battling, the voice of Atif was picked up by the Indian director Mahesh Batt, who quickly seeked permission for the inclusino of his soundtrack woh lamhey in his film Zeher. This meant further success for Atif Aslam in India and took him to bollywood where the demand for him as a playback singer is growing. He has already recorded song for the film Kalyug with the song Juda Hokey Bhi. This was followed by a recording of 'Man Push Cart' and he was also rewarded with a small cameo role in the movie itself and yet even more bollywood songs.
In between recording Bollywood songs, Atif Aslam had also been touring the world and working on his new album entitled 'Hangami Halaat' which is due to be released in the summer of 2006.
