Third Ashra of Ramadan
Posted On 10/10/2006 14:34:26 by PrINc3
The last ten days of Ramadan are the most spiritually charged days of the month. During the last ten days of Ramadan Muslims from all over the world indulge in praying.

It is a time of special spiritual power as everyone tries to come closer to God through devotions and good deeds.

Ramadan enjoys and intrinsic superiority over all the other months of the year. Likewise, it's last 'Ashra or ten days are superior to the two earlier 'Ashras, and lailatul Qadr or the Night of Power, generally, falls in it.

That is why, the sacred Prophet (peace & blessings upon him) devoted himself more intensively to prayer and other forms of worship during it and urged others, also, to do the same.

Ayesha (RA) related to us that "the Apostle of Allah (peace & blessings upon him) strove harder and took greater pains to observe prayer etc., during the last ten days of Ramadan than during the other days." [Muslim]

It is related by Ayesha (RA) that "when the last ten days of Ramadan began the Apostle of Allah (peace & blessings upon him) would gird up the loins and keep awake in the nights (i.e., he used to spend the whole of the nights in prayer and worship), and, also, wakened the members of his family (so that they, too, could partake of the blessings of the nights of that month)." [Bukhari]

Night of Power

The night on which the first verses of the Qur'an were revealed to the Prophet, known as the Night of Power (Lailat ul-Qadr), is generally taken to be the 27th night of the month. The Qur'an states that this night is better than a thousand months. Therefore many Muslims spend the entire night in prayer.

Next year resolution

It is a time to make a resolution for the next year to continue to pray in the masjid as much as we can, just as we have been doing in Ramadan. Let's also make a resolution for the next year to continue to read the Quraan as we have been doing in Ramadan. Do not forget to fast the 6 days of Shawwal if you can!
